Common questions

Do I need an Apple Pencil?

No. Your finger works everywhere. The Pencil is best, especially for pressure and brush endings.

My finger isn't drawing.

Right after you use the Pencil, LineType ignores touches for a moment so your resting palm doesn't draw. Wait two seconds, or keep using the Pencil.

How do I switch between English, Japanese and Chinese?

On the home screen, tap the language you want. LineType remembers it.

Chinese in LineType is Mandarin: simplified characters, pinyin, and a Mandarin voice. Cantonese may come later as its own course.

What's free, and what's in Pro?

Free: the full print course, the first unit of every course (Japanese and Chinese: the basic strokes, then numbers and everyday characters), the daily challenge, a round a day of each word game, a pen game of the day, and making your own font. Pro unlocks every course and character, unlimited games, hand stats, signature practice and more profiles. Get it yearly (with a 7-day free trial) or monthly, or pay once with Lifetime. With Family Sharing, one purchase covers up to six people.

How do I cancel or change my subscription?

In the app, open your profile and tap the Pro row, then manage subscription. Or on your iPhone or iPad: Settings › your name › Subscriptions › LineType. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends; you keep Pro until then. Lifetime is a single payment, with nothing to cancel.

I bought Pro on another device, or reinstalled the app.

Open your profile, tap the Pro row, then restore purchase. This works for subscriptions and Lifetime, on any device signed in to the same Apple account.

Where is my data? Can I move it to a new device?

Everything stays on the device you use (see the privacy policy). Fonts you make can be exported as .ttf files from the font screen.

How do I install my font?

On the font screen, tap share .ttf and send the file to your Mac or PC (AirDrop, Mail or Files), then open it there to install it. Apps like Procreate can import it directly.
